Are you settling for less?

I'm a pragmatist at heart and I rarely wear rose-colored glasses. However I admit that sometimes the person easiest to deceive in my life has been myself. One of the ways I've deceived myself in the past is telling myself that something was "good enough." The way the relationship was unfolding, the shape of the work project and the resources I was given, the pace and schedule of my life, the time I had to devote to what gave me pleasure, the responsibilities I'd taken on, the things I deferred. Well it was "okay" I told myself. It was "fine." "It wasn't really that bad."

The pragmatist in me, acknowledges that we don't always get everything we want or need and life is rarely if ever perfect. However, if you reflect on the choices you're making (and maybe even the choices being offered), the actions you're taking. what you're putting up with or avoiding and why, can you evaluate whether you're settling for less than you deserve?

Deserve you ask? Who deserves anything? Well you do. We all do. You deserve to exercise your options in a way that enriches not starves your heart and soul. You deserve to spend the precious and limited time you've been given in a way that satisfies you. Maybe not all the time. However, I would posit that for many of us we settle more times than we would want to admit.

So as you reflect on this message, ask yourself this question: "If I could believe I deserved more (or better), what would I change or do differently?"

Terri Bemiss is the creator of this wonderful card www.BG14cardco.etsy.com When I first saw it I laughed and then it struck me. Was Cinderella settling? Did he really not recognize her without make-up?
